Just a few miles north of the hustle and bustle of Miami Beach lies Florida’s French Riviera, also known as Sunny Isles Beach. The name doesn’t lie, not only is the weather sunny, but the area is a mecca of everything bright and shiny. From the modern high rise buildings, to the pristine beaches, turquoise water and the abundance of luxury vehicles, Sunny Isles has something for even the most refined palette.
When it comes to deciding where to stay there are an array of oceanfront options with every imaginable luxury. You can choose a boutique style hotel, a resort with a spa or rent a condo for the week in one of the many five star doorman buildings. You would be right to expect valet, a spacious gym and a pool with a Jacuzzi but you may be surprised that some of the hotels offer private romantic beachfront catered dinners, chauffeur service to and from the airport and assistance with chartering a yacht and even with a personal shopper.
Sunny Isles does offer a few boutiques, but when it comes to perusing the finest luxuries in retail you will want to head about ten minutes south to The Shops at Bal Harbour. This open-air shopping mall offers a world class shopping experience which is on par to New York City, Paris and Milan. From the Italian sports cars lined up outside to the gourmet restaurants to the lush tropical gardens and water features, it feels more like an exotic retreat. You can get a bespoke, tailored European suit, a luxury timepiece or that pair of designer stilettos you’ve been saving in your online shopping cart.
When you return from an exhausting day of retail therapy be sure to check out one of Sunny Isles’ many world renowned spas. My favorite happens to include a crystal steam room where the healing powers of a giant pink crystal combine with the pore cleansing steam of a traditional steam room. It will leave you refreshed, at which point you can cool off with an ice bath or a rainforest shower. Afterwards head on over to the relaxation room where you can await your personal spa attendant and then choose from a wide variety of treatments including massages, facials and body scrubs.
Check out one of the gourmet supermarkets where you can find foods from around the world and one of them even has a café with a DJ outside to enhance your shopping experience. You could also opt for one of the many fine dining options. Seafood is obviously fresh and there are plenty of options to choose from, as well as sushi, Italian, Cuban or Russian restaurant choices. All the hotels offer casual poolside dining, as well as fine dining establishments and in room dining.
If you wake up feeling rejuvenated and refreshed and want to try a day of activities there are ocean front sports rentals, as well as a nearby state park. Kayaking, Stand up Paddle boarding and Jet Skiing are all excellent choices. Taking a dip in the Atlantic Ocean followed by some sunset yoga on the beach make a nice way to wrap up another sun filled day. Even during the rainy season the rain doesn’t last long and it isn’t much of a deterrent from enjoying the outdoors. The mild winter temperatures make Sunny Isles an excellent year round destination.
